Maintenance of Way
The SCSRA M/W department is made up of volunteer individuals from diverse backgrounds with a common interest, the preservation and operational display of vintage railway equipment. It is this latter reason which makes the M/W department such a vital entity of the SCSRA.
There are areas of interest in the SCSRA for everyone, though members of the M/W department often find that it is the hard work and physical effort of spiking ties and laying rail that draws them to this area. Historically, track gangs have been the lifeblood of the railroads and today it is no exception. The M/W dept. is by far the largest single group within the SCSRA, and for good reason! Withing the near future, work is slated to begin on the construction of new display trackage that will support car space for Fullerton Railroad Days and, in time, the new Southern California Railroad Museum at Fullerton.
For those of you interested in physical work, some of the skills needed for M/W work include:
No experience required. We will be happy to train you. Many of our Associates have developed wide-ranging skills from their hands-on involvement with our projects. Others bring skills and share them with us. One thing is certain: you will learn with us and you will make new friends! ![]() This Lining Machine donated to The Southern California Scenic Railway Association by Cox Contracting, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
